Saturday Oct. 11 -- Youth Council Elections -- 10am - 2pm

The Youth Council election will be held on Saturday October 11th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm on the Village Green. All kids on the island from the age of 5 to 18 are encouraged to vote. The voting station will be located near the swing-sets on the south side of the park.

There are 7 candidates running for 4 positions. The age limit for being a Youth Council elected official is from 14-18. This year you can become an associate member of the Youth Council by contributing 5 volunteer hours. As an associate member you will receive your volunteer hours required by school and participate in our activities. Associate members can not vote-that is the only difference.

Parents, please encourage your youth to attend the meetings the first and third Monday of each month in the Village Chambers. The meetings begin at 6:30 and usually end by 7:30.

Saturday & Sunday October 25 & 26 -- Monster Splash 2003 -- Two Days of Fright at Miami Seaquarium®

Join Miami Seaquarium for two days of fright at Monster Splash 2003 on Halloween weekend, Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26, from 9:30am to 5pm. A portion of the event proceeds to benefit a charitable organization Voices for Children Foundation, Inc. of South Florida.

Children and their parents will enjoy safe and fun trick-or-treating at Monster Splash 2003. All children in costume will receive 50% off regular admission. Candy stations will be set up around the park for trick-or-treaters in costume. The park will have a DJ with fun games and activities and a costume character show lead by Miami Seaquarium costume characters Flipper Dolphin and Lolita, the Killer Whale.

Miami Seaquarium Monster Splash 2003 celebration will feature Halloween themed marine mammal shows and presentations. Cadaverous creatures will perform at Flipper's Thrills and Chills Show. Follow the yellow brick road to The Wizard of Oz Sea Lion Show. And Spiderman, Wonder Woman and their friends take center stage to save the universe in the Superheroes Killer Whale Show and buccaneers put up a fight at Pirates of the Top Deck Show.

A star-studded guest list, a dazzling display of world-famous Tiffany's jewelry, an auction of rare "millionaire-lifestyle" vacations, and one of the most recognized international hotels, will all come together for a spectacular fundraising event for Mercy Hospital on Saturday, November 8, at the InterContinental Miami.

MCM ONE OF FOUR DESIGNATED WINNERS IN FLORIDA -- Miami Children's Museum was awarded $150,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. MCM was one of four designated winners in the state of Florida. The award will be used to expand educational services offered by MCM. Project activities will include technology-infused after school and weekend, fee-based class series that will involve children in fun, educational projects focusing on arts, culture, community and communication; free after school technology club that is designed for children who do not have access to technology resources at home; technology center, which will contain 20 multimedia computer stations for use by children participating in MCM's technology based programming; parent/teacher resource center, which will provide parents, caregivers and teachers with technology-based resources to support the growth and development of their children/students and an enhanced web site by increasing the educational content on the site.

Florida Media Inc. is currently working on the 2004 issue of Florida Fishing & Boating magazine, the official guide to fishing and boating in the state of Florida. We are requesting photos from all over the state of fishing and boating related activities. This includes people fishing (saltwater and freshwater) boating pictures of all kinds, and people with the fish they have caught. Please try to include as much information with the pictures as is available, such as location, waterway, type of water (freshwater or saltwater) where the fish was caught, the type of fish, the size of the fish, the name of the person (if available), date caught and any other information that is relevant.
