January 22 -- Enter the Year of the Monkey

The day following the second new moon after the winter solstice marks the start of Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. Each year is governed by one of 12 animal symbols. Like other Chinese festivals, this event - the most significant in the Chinese calendar - is based upon the lunar or agrarian calendar. Chinese New Year never falls on the 1st of January, but instead varies from year to year. This year, 4702 in the Chinese calendar, Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 22, and is the Year of the Monkey.

Free Admission - located on the south end of Crandon Blvd

The 40th Annual Festival sponsored by the Rotary Club and United Capital Markets will have over 150 regional and national artists in this juried art event. In additional to the fine art and crafts for sale, there will be a children's section with a rock climbing wall and kid's activities, an international food court and live music from "BIG", the MAST Academy Steel Drum Band and the Chowder Chompers.

On Saturday at 6 p.m. the public is also invited to an Artist Party at the Boaters Grill. Tickets may be purchased at the Festival - $15 for adults, $7 for children, which includes dinner and live entertainment.

Jan 24 & 25 Saturday & Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm -- Youth Council

At the Key Biscayne Art Festival, Jan.24-25, the Youth Council will be in charge of the children's area. Stop by our booth and meet the Youth Council and see what we have planned. We will be conducting a recreational center survey and would like the youth of Key Biscayne tell us what they would like to see in our Recreation Center.

We would like you to come to our meetings! They are the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Council Chamber. If you can't make it, they are televised on the Key Biscayne Channel 16.

January 26th - Beginning Computers for Adults - This 6 week class meets on Mondays from 10 a.m. ­ 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $45.00. To register or for more info. call 305-365-8953.

January 27th - Painting & Drawing with Tony Coro - The instructor will work with individual styles and mediums. Thursday January 29 - - Citibank will host "A Taste of Citi" to benefit the Key Biscayne Rotary Club Children's Polio Foundation -- 6pm to 8pm

As part of a community outreach initiative, Citibank will host "A Taste of the Citi" at the Key Biscayne Financial Center located at 84 Crandon Boulevard. "A Taste of the Citi" is a food festival that unites local restaurants for a sampling of their international cuisine. Sponsors include Bacardi, U.S.A who will donate beverages for the festival.

The Key Biscayne Rotary Club will be selling Teddy Bears during the event in order to raise funds for the Children's Polio Foundation. For more information regarding "A Taste of the Citi" please contact Rosamaria Franchy, Citibank Key Biscayne Financial Center Manager at 305-361-7994.

The Village of Key Biscayne Youth Council will be hosting a Super Bowl Night fundraiser whose proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Watch the Super Bowl (and the commercials) on a super-size screen outside in the field at Key Biscayne Community Church.
