Pesqueira Gallery presents -- Art East * Art West PaperWorks -- FREE illustrated talks on Western artists and Eastern influences by Ruth Rosenwasser

Works on paper from Asia, such as Japanese woodblock prints and Persian miniature paintings became popular during the 19th century in the west. Modernism, with its emphasis on flat fields of color, owns much to the art of the east. Artists such as Whistler, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Matisse, collected prints, scrolls, and paintings and were inspired and influenced by Eastern techniques and motifs.

Ruth Rosenwasser is a writer, photographer, lecturer and specialist on Asian art. She is curatorial consultant for South Asia art at the Lowe Art Museum. She has taught comparative art history as a member of the adult education faculties at FIU and University of Miami. She also leads group tours to India.

Tuesday, March 23. 8 PM -- Eugene Delacroix and his Moroccan notebooks.

Tuesday, March 30. 8 PM -- Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt and Japonisme.

Tuesday March 23 -- Key Biscayne Life Enhancement Forum (KBLEF) -- 7pm to 9pm

The Key Biscayne Life Enhancement Forum (KBLEF) will present an evening with Boris Fernandez, local Key Biscayne resident and member of the US Triathlon Team. The event is FREE, and all Key Biscayne residents and their friends are welcome to attend at the Key Biscayne Community Church. KBLEF encourages adults to bring the young athletes in their households, too.

Boris will explain the history of the triathlon and how it made the fast track as an Olympic event. He will outline his training regimen, how he developed the discipline necessary to maintain it, and how he sees his role in the sport as an opportunity to be an ambassador for the human spirit. He feels that striving for excellence in a triathlon, especially when thinks get tough, is a showcase for the human spirit to show through.

KBLEF encourages you to attend this informative and inspiring forum and to show your support for our local, world-class athlete.

Future KBLEF topics for the 2004 season are being considered now.
