We are pleased to announce the results of the Board of Directors election for 2004. The results were very close, with the newly elected Board being:

Key Publishing is a full service graphic design company that has been doing business on Key Biscayne for three years. We are perhaps best known as the the publishers of "Island Life: The Official Guide and Directory of the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce." In addition to full-color magazines, Key Publishing provides clients with advertising design, flyers, posters, brochures, newsletters, catalogues and logos. Key Publishing designed the logo that was used by the Chamber of Commerce for it's flaming promotion.

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center has the following events planned:

Saturday May 1:

Restoration Saturday -- Join us in 3 hours of yard work. 9am to 12 noon - come ready to work.
Seagrass Adventure -- Accompany a Naturalist and drag a net through the seagrass. 12 noon to 2pm. Be surprised by what you find. $10 per person. Reservations required.

Sunday May 2:

Sunday Art Opening -- featuring the works of Glenn Terry and his son Dylan Terry. 3pm to 6 pm. Loads of fun for the big kids.

Saturday May 8: WATERFEST 12 noon to 3pm. A total celebration of water, great fun for the whole family. No reservations required.

Sunday May 9: Hammock Hike -- 12 noon to 2pm. Accompany a Naturalist on a walk through the hammock. $10 per person. Reservations required.

Tuesday May 4 -- GRAND BAY CLUB'S MOTHERS' DAY SHOPPING & BEAUTY BAZAAR -- 11 am to 5 pm

Saturday May 1 & 2 -- Miami Children's Museum Host's the 8th Annual MCM Film Festival Awards Ceremony

The Miami Children's Museum in conjunction with the Florida Film Festival, presents the MCM 8th Annual Film Festival awards ceremony. On May 1, visitors and participants can view their movies on the "big screen" from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The screenings are free and open to the public. Following morning screenings on May 2, the official awards ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served following the awards ceremony, which is by invitation only.

Village of Key Biscayne Youth Council's is holding the first ever Summer Blowout. The Blowout is a Fair that will take place at the Key Biscayne Community Church Grounds. Events will include popular fair rides in the day and entertainment for older youth provided by several local bands at night, with food and drinks for all.

The purpose for the fair is to raise money for the Scott Bass College Scholarship, which will be awarded to a High School senior from Key Biscayne who has presented superior academic and extracurricular achievements. Applications for students who are interested in the fund will be available soon.

National Tourism week begins May 8 to May 16. National Tourism Week, an opportunity to celebrate and renew our appreciation for the natural, cultural and historic treasures of our nation. Tourism Week promotes a wider understanding of travel and tourism as a major U.S. industry that is vital to the economic stability and growth of the United States and that contributes substantially to its cultural and social well-being.

Military personnel stationed in Miami-Dade County encounter a higher than usual cost of living that is not offset by pay supplements. Businesses that give discounts to active duty and reserve personnel can assist military personnel and market to this group. The Miami-Dade Defense Alliance (MDDA) and Chamber South will publish a Discount Directory of Miami-Dade County businesses that offer these discounts. Businesses can be listed in the Directory for FREE. The directory will include a section that describes how to identify active and reserve duty personnel. I-95 / I-195 SIGNING REPLACEMENT PROJECT. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will soon begin a Signing Replacement Project along I-95 / I-195 throughout Miami-Dade County. Exit numbers will be changed from consecutive exit numbers to milepost numbers. As a result, the new exit numbers will match the numbers on the mile markers along the highway. The advance guide signs and the exit direction signs will display both the old and new exit numbers for about two years so that everyone can get used to the new numbers.

The intent of this project is to improve convenience and safety by providing a system where motorists can easily determine their position along the highway. This will enable motorists to tell where they are in emergency situations, and will help them determine the distance remaining to their destination.
