Thursday October 14 -- Mayoral Debate -- Council Chambers
The Islander News will sponsor a debate between Village mayoral candidates Robert Oldakowski and Carol Diaz-Castro. Moderator will be David Adams, award-winning reporter for the St.Petersburg Times.
The 90-minute debate will include written questions from the audience. The debate will be televised live on Channel 16 and replayed until the November 2 election.

Thursday, October 21 -- Council Debate -- Council Chambers -- 7pm
The Islander will sponsor a Candidate's Forum with the 10 Village Council candidates. Moderator will be Merwin Sigale, journalism professor at Miami-Dade College. The forum also will be broadcast on Channel 16.


Friday October 15 -- Miami Seaquarium® Day Camp on manatee conservation -- 9am to 5pm
Come and learn how you can help protect Florida’s official marine mammal. Campers will get the chance to feed some of our rehabilitating manatees and find out why these gentle giants are endangered.

Friday October 22 -- Premier Wine Tasting Event -- 6 pm to 9 pm

Please join wine producers from around the world as we inaugurate the First Annual Key Biscayne Wine Tasting. This event will benefit the Key Biscayne Rotary Club Foundation and its selected charities. Those include: Hogar Rafael Ayau, an orphanage in Guatemala, and School for the blind #505 in Merlo City, Buenos Aires Province District.

Attendees will sample wines from the world's leading vineyards and will graze on delicacies prepared by the Sonesta's expert kitchen staff. Expect Traffic Delays October 9 & 10. Triamerica, America's Triathlon Series will be holding it's 9th stop and series finale triathlon along the Rickenbacker Causeway, October 9th (Saturday) and October 10th (Sunday). The newly formed Miami-Dade Sports Commission (Miami Sports), is working with Sommer Sports, professional event management company to promote and retain amateur sporting events for Miami-Dade County. This event will foster positive growth and economic development for our local community. Causeway traffic flow will be impacted during the morning hours from, 6 am - 10:30 am on both days, and vehicles will be routed onto the north side of the causeway in a counter flow direction. The Miami Seaquarium will be hosting the event, please expect slight delays.

The K.B.A.C. Youth Soccer season is right around the corner. Because the Key Biscayne Athletic Club is a non-profit organization, it relies on sponsors to help cover expenses. These expenses include; Insurance, Uniforms, Coaches and Referee fees, Equipment, Trophies, Field Maintenance and whenever possible, improvements. We are asking for your support by either renewing or becoming a Team Sponsor for this valuable youth activity. The sponsor fee for this season will once again be $495.00.

As a sponsor, you will have the business name printed on the team shirts, publicity by virtue of visual recognition at the fields, our schedule booklets, and weekly standings in the local paper. At the end of each season, the sponsor receives any awards that their team may have earned, plus a nice thank you plaque with a team picture.
