2020 Vision Forum results for the Key’s Master Plan: On June 9 and 11, the 2020 Vision Committee organized 2 public forums to find out exactly what the concerns and worries are for Key Biscayne residents. The Committee will be drafting a Key Master Plan known as the Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) for the future of the island. Residents who participated in the forums agreed on the following issues:
- Concerns for the Key: overpopulation, development, environmental degradation, and traffic.
- Facets of the Key that residents hold most dear: sense of community, a safe and peaceful quality of life, the chance to be close to the city but not too close, Key Biscayne’s natural island beauty.
- Strengths of the Key: strong sense of community, small town feeling, proximity to Miami, tropical environment, services and facilities, government, and friendly population.
- Weaknesses of the Key: lack of certain public services and facilities, traffic, parking, growth and development, and changing demographics.
- Key opportunities: To create new parks and expand community services. Residents anticipate better traffic, development rules, and communication among residents.
- Key Threats: overpopulation, development, impacts of Virginia Key development, environmental degradation, high traffic.
The 2020 Vision Committee promises to incorporate the residents’ responses into the Village statement and Plan.

Your FPL rates will be increasing in 2006: Because of a series of rate reductions, FPL’s base rates today are 16% lower than they were 20 years ago, though prices of fuel have almost doubled. The requested increase in rates will allow us to make the necessary investments to ensure all of our customers continue to receive the reliable electric service they expect from us. We wouldn't be seeking an increase unless it was absolutely necessary to maintain electric reliability that is among the best in the nation and to meet a rapidly growing demand for electricity. Florida is growing faster than almost any other state, and our customers are using nearly 30 percent more electricity than a generation ago. To meet these increasing demands for electricity, we must invest billions of dollars.
**********************************************************
In order for business to plan accordingly, FPL has provided comparisons and rate sheets to show you the details of the changes to commercial rates that may affect your business in 2006. We will be communicating with you throughout the rest of 2005 to keep you informed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact FPL Major Customer Manager Gema Basnuevo at (305) 552-2505.
