June 1 - July 2: City Theatre's annual Summer Shorts Festival begins in Coral Gables! The festival is devoted to fully produced World and/or Regional Premieres of "shorts" -- original comedies, dramas and musicals running 5-20 minutes in length. This summer-long banquet of theatre features 15 - 20 short plays on the Mainstage, performed in two alternating programs, along with outreach events including the popular Festival Series of play readings, the unique KidShorts project to mentor student writers and the noted CityDialogues guest artist series.
The Summer Shorts Festival performs throughout the month of June at the 300-seat Ring Theatre in Coral Gables and travels each July to the 580-seat Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale.

- Fossil Reef Exploration Navigate your way to the only fossilized mangrove rock reef in the United States. Learn how to use a compass, You will interactively find this structure a habitat teeming with marine life such as sea hares, bleeding tooth nerites, and black horn snails.
- Binocular Eyes Then, dry off on a beach walk to observe wading birds such as the brown pelican, double-crested cormorant, and the great white heron as they catch lunch along the coastline.

Cell Phones for Soldiers: The Cell Phone for Soldiers program has been expanded to include iPods, MP3 Players and inkjet printer cartridges (all brands except Epson).
The items are recycled and the money raised goes to buy prepaid long-distance calling cards for soldiers serving in the Armed Forces.
Used cell phones, iPods, MP3 Players or inkjet printer cartridges may be taken to The Islander News in the Key Executive Building or the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce in Village Hall.
