Jay Bon Salle
Foundation

|
The Jay Bon Salle Foundation was formed by family and friends to raise money to help fight heart disease. Proceeds from the Jay Bon Salle Memorial Golf Tournament, held in November at the Crandon Park Golf Course in Key Biscayne, and donations to the Foundation go directly to the University of Miami Cardiovascular Center. The Center is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research of cardiovascular disease. The team at the Center enabled Jay to live a longer, happier life.

September Fashion Issue of Key Biscayne Magazine. My first sprained ankle-at the age of 4-was the result of wearing my mother's six-inch red platform shoes. As a little girl I would spend hours dressing up, applying her Mary Quant makeup, draping her pearls around me, and spraying myself with her familiar Diorissimo scent.
At that time, my mother was a movie star and her treasure-filled closet reflected that fact. I made my make-believe stage entrances in her gold lamé dresses and crushed-velvet evening gowns. Those early magical moments influenced my love for fashion.
While growing up in London, I enjoyed a rebellious phase. I flaunted my wild hair, red lipstick and alternative clothes on King's Road, declaring my own sense of fashion. Yet somewhere along the way my mother's style showed up. Perhaps it started with her neglected yellow Jaeger cashmere sweater. It suddenly created the perfect look with my vintage boot-cut Levi's.
For me, fashion has always been an emotional journey of self-discovery and renewal. In this our fashion edition, we have tried to capture its essence. From designers like Silvia Tcherassi, who has created a recognizable brand, to outstanding jewelry designers and visionary boutique owners, we showcase the spectrum of fashion-focused talent on Key Biscayne. Since the fashion choices we make every day start in our closets, we decided to look inside several closets on the Key. These stylish Key Biscayners were gracious enough to open their closet doors and allow us to take a peek. And what gems we found!
As for me and my mother, well, these days her prized possessions are no longer in her closet, but in her pruned flowerbeds. She now prefers shiny gardening tools to strings of pearls, but she still wears her jasmine infused Diorissimo scent. And although her six-inch heels have been replaced by comfortable pumps, she continues to be my muse, my fashion icon and my Jackie O.
Look out for our October Entertainment issue. For comments or ideas please contact Sabrina Azadi: editor@keybiscaynemag.com or call (305) 903-6445
