Vacation in your backyard - Did you know you could climb the 109 steps to the top of the oldest building in South Florida at the end of Crandon? Lighthouse tours are offered at 10:00am and 1:00pm Thursday thru Monday free of charge by the Park Rangers of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The federal government built the Cape Florida Lighthouse as part of a network of navigational aids along Florida’s eastern seaboard. The lighthouse was attacked and burned in 1836 during the Second Seminole Indian War and reconstructed in 1846. There are great views and interesting tales from the Park Rangers. It does cost $1.00 per person to enter the Park if you are walking or biking, $3.00 for a car with one person and $5.00 for a car full of people.
